Christian Internship – Unchangeable To Changed
By CBM National intern, Ansley Blake –
Being part of the sixth group of interns here with Children’s Bible Ministries has been such a blessing in my life! It is so exciting to see how ministry works behind the scenes here at Tuckaleechee Retreat Center, CBM’s National Headquarters. I have achieved so many “firsts” during my four months in Townsend—from traveling to volunteer at a few of the CBM camps to experience in maintenance. God is constantly on the move, showing me how to be more like Him each day. The Lord has greatly changed me in many ways through this internship and it is only May!
The most recent camp I had the privilege of travelling to was Camp Ta-Pa-Win-Go in Watauga, TN. It was rainy for most of the time we were there, but that did not stop us from doing His work! I got to clean cabins, which I was used to but, for the first time in my life, I learned how to easily put mattress covers on mattresses! It may not sound very exciting, but it was a new experience for me and I am thankful that God could use me for His glory. Aside from that, I was able to see some of the awesome staff again, and even get to know some of them that I had never gotten the chance to officially meet!
As interns we also get the opportunity to work alongside the Jim, the Maintenance Director. I have learned so many new skills from working with Jim. He has let us tear down door frames, relocate and organize his shop, use a chainsaw, mulch different areas at the retreat center, and so much more! Working with Jim is great because he has a great sense of humor. He makes working outside fun! Aside from all the great, silly jokes, he taught us about being good stewards with what the Lord has given us. Most people take for granted the little things in life, but Jim reminds us to be thankful for everything the Lord has given to us and to take care of it as best we can.
Before I began this year-long journey, it was as if I had on blinders. I could not see my struggle with patience or the way that my words could sometimes hurt people. It is safe to say the Lord heard my prayer to “mold me into His image” during these twelve months, for the Lord is very patient with His children. God has used my wonderful roommate Ana to encourage me tremendously and help me to keep going when I want to give up. I will not say I could not have made it this far without her, because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, but it would have been extremely difficult to do this internship without her friendship. She always points me back to scripture when I have a problem, and what better place to turn to than the Word of God?
My God is so good! He has remained faithful and true, no matter what I do. Stay true to Christ, and He will bless you immensely! If He calls you to do something, do it completely and thoroughly to glorify His name. If you are not comfortable doing a task, just do it over and over. You will gain so much experience and you will learn to be great at it! If you do not necessarily want to do a task, it is in your best interest to get over your stubbornness and just do it. God does not always call us to do what we want or like to do, He leads us out of our comfort zone to do His will! He knows us entirely and wants to use those who are willing to give every part of their lives to Him. Give it all to the Savior of the world and He will take you places you never thought you would go.
