Who Ate My Candy Bar?

Last week I had dinner with a family and then after dinner I was treated to an evening of touring some of the country side of Southwestern Pennsylvania. One of the stops took us to Canonsburg, PA, to a Chocolate Factory and Ice Cream Parlour called Sarris. WOW! I never saw so much chocolate all in one place. As I sipped my Coke in the Ice Cream parlour we listened to the old player piano that sat in the corner of the shop. What a treat to have such a lovely evening with my friend, Bert! As we were crossing the street from Sarris’ Roberta handed me a dark chocolate ...

Children’s Ministry–A Craft Idea the Kids Will Love!

This past weekend was our CBM National Conference. It was a great time to get together with all our CBM areas from around the States. We all enjoyed hearing what each area was doing in their ministries. One of the break-out sessions was about themes. It was interesting to hear all the different ideas that the camps have used in the past. What a remarkable group of people, dedicated to helping children know the Lord.  Their ideas were to engage kids and reinforce the messages. One comment that was shared in the session was “what we may think is mickey mouse to us, ...

Changing Lives Through Christian Camping

As I was reading the monthly newsletter from our Camp Victory in Samson, AL, This part stood out to me. It talks about our words and actions are as seeds that we plant in other lives. The other day the phone rang and I rushed to answer it. The voice identifies himself. Oh my, the memories that raced back! He just wanted to call and say “Thank you” for helping him. I had led ...

As I read the following; I was impressed with how simple it can be. It reminded me to look through the lens of my complicated adult world with that simple child like faith. Forget heated debates and impassioned explanations. It's time to re-imagine apologetics for a new generation of children. A few weeks ago, my 10-year -old son came home from school with a huge smile on his face. "John's a Christian now!" "Wow! That's really cool! Tell me about it." I'm not sure what I was expecting to hear. Maybe that Jeremiah had learned about the Four Spiritual Laws in his ...

Christian Object Lessons – How to Develop a Creative Mindset

Developing Christian object lessons is a mindset. I've been putting them together for years and I think they are simply the coolest, most fun part of any Bible lesson. My Bible stories for children always contain at least one object lesson. As a result, I'm always on the prowl for something I can use to drive a point home to kids. You need to develop a mindset that no matter where you are or what you do; there is always a potential object or situation that can be incorporated into an object lesson. Don't forget to keep within reach a way to write or record these ideas so ...
