Who Ate My Candy Bar?

candy-barLast week I had dinner with a family and then after dinner I was treated to an evening of touring some of the country side of Southwestern Pennsylvania. One of the stops took us to Canonsburg, PA, to a Chocolate Factory and Ice Cream Parlour called Sarris. WOW! I never saw so much chocolate all in one place. As I sipped my Coke in the Ice Cream parlour we listened to the old player piano that sat in the corner of the shop. What a treat to have such a lovely evening with my friend, Bert! As we were crossing the street from Sarris’ Roberta handed me a dark chocolate candy bar to take home! Yum! Dark chocolate is my favorite.

I saved my special candy bar and took it back home with me when I left town at the end of the week. When I was unpacking my things I saw the candy bar and stopped and opened it. My mouth was watering for a piece of that dark chocolate. But what if half of my candy bar was missing when I unwrapped it? I would have felt cheated and would have been pretty disappointed in the Sarris candy factory to see only half of a candy bar in that wrapper. I know that my friend Bert would have never given me just half of a candy bar. What about us and God? What are we to give to God? Matthew 22, verse 37 says, “Love the Lord your God with HALF your heart, with HALF your soul and with HALF your mind.” Oh NO, it say “Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul and with ALL your mind.”

You see my friend, God just doesn’t want half or part of us, He wants everything we have! Don’t cheat God by serving Him half-hearted. God wants to be #1 in your life. We can have other friends, family, material things in our lives but God wants to be the most important person in our lives. That can only happen when we give Him our whole heart! All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give! No half eaten candy bars will do!
