Persevere: Keep Holding On
By CBM National intern, Devyn Polk –
Have you ever felt like giving up? Like it’s not worth it? That no matter how hard you try, something goes wrong? I sure have! Here’s a little bit of my story…
I was bullied a lot. You know, things like being called fat and ugly. It was really hard for me. I tried starving myself and had the desire to hurt myself in other ways. By the age of 17, after holding so much in, I felt like I needed to let it out somehow. So what did I do? I tried harming myself externally to try and relieve the internal pain. But the “relief” I felt was temporary. God quickly showed me that wasn’t the path He wanted for me. He was telling me that He was always there, and I could just go to Him, the only One who could really heal my pain.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Because of God, I kept holding on. Soon my pain was replaced with peace and an urgency for reaching others who might be going through the same thing. One time, my best friend told me he admired my perseverance. I’ve been through a lot, but by the grace of God, I’m still here. It is all because of God!!!
“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:3-5
Yes, you will face trials. No, it’s not going to be easy, but persevere! If you are saved, God is with you, and He will take care of you. What you’re going through right now may not make sense, but God will use it to glorify Himself, and He will give you peace beyond understanding.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
I would go through all the hardships again just to have the testimony God gave me. He uses me to help others, and even lead them to Christ and further His Kingdom. So keep holding on, God isn’t finished with you yet!!! 🙂
