Christian Internship – Blind to the Obvious

internship-cbmBy CBM National intern, Jamie Carpenter –

The Lord is always doing something in our lives even if it is not easy for us to see. When I began the CBM National Internship Program I had an idea of what I was getting into, but experiencing it first-hand was like nothing else I’ve encountered. As I mentioned in my very first blog, God worked in me in tremendous ways just within the first month that I was at CBM National Headquarters. As I continued my time at various CBM areas, it became harder to see what the Lord was doing in my life even though I knew He was working. How silly of me to find it difficult to see what the Almighty God is doing. If we look around us, we see so much of what He has done for us already.

When I got to Cornerstone Ministry Center here in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, I was unsure of what the Lord was going to do with me. Things were so different here than what I was used to and it was quite an adjustment. I found myself numerous times missing my home camp, Camp Grace, because this would be my first summer away in 10 years. I wanted to be there and not at Cornerstone but, again, God is always working and it is ridiculous of us to think or feel otherwise. He, of course, comforted me through my struggles and homesickness and He brought me through it all. As the summer went on, I started to have a much better time here simply because I was finally starting to open my eyes and see how my Heavenly Father was doing such a wonderful thing in me. I was so ashamed that I had been asking Him what He was doing, when He was so obviously doing amazing things everywhere around me.

The Lord’s work is sometimes unknown to us, but we ought to never doubt that He is indeed showing Himself through us in some way. John 13:7 reads, “Jesus answered him, ‘What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.’” I do not mean to sound cliché, but God has a reason for everything. We may not see what He is doing immediately, or for even a very long time, but He is not a God of mysterious intent. He has a plan and will make Himself clear in every situation. He is growing me into what I am supposed to be and I am so excited to know that He will continue to do a mighty work in me as long as I live. I know that it will be so beautiful in the end and, until that day, I will always strive to look towards Him and only Him. When I have the opportunity of the Lord working inside of me, why would I give that up?

Philippians 1:6, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
