Seeing God’s Hand in Creation

By Ron and Sherry Yeater

Quillford made his way along the hedge on his regular search for food. The stillness of the night was broken by a squeaky hinge on the screen door. Quillford stopped in his tracks and listened. Sure enough, he heard the approach of Barky who was out for his final night run. Barky quickly searched the yard and found Quillford’s scent near the hedge. Barky had tried to catch him before but this time he felt that he was really close. Yes, there he was! Just one quick bite and then…ooowww, yelp, yelp, whine. Quillford had heard him coming and quickly rolled up in a tight ball with only his sharp quills pointing outward. He knew he was safe because, as a hedgehog, his quills were no match for a pesky dog.

“God’s design for his creation never ceases to amaze me.”

“God’s design is amazing.”

God’s design for his creation never ceases to amaze me. I have recently watched as a six-month-old hedgehog mother prepared a bedding area and cared for her young. Yes, six months old, with a complete instinct of what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and how to train her young to be on their own. She even took much needed rest times away from the babies as they grew older. Then they found her and there was no more rest!

“Creation shows God’s majestic wisdom.”

We turn now from an animal to the wonder of space and the universe. Psalms 19:1-2 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.” In verses three through six, the extent of this knowledge reaches throughout all of the earth.

Many years ago I found a book by E. W, Bullinger titled “The Witness of the Stars.”  It was re-printed from 1893, and it makes an interesting study for Sunday school or for summer camp.

The book starts with the constellation of Virgo the Virgin and ends with Leo the Lion. The journey through the constellations shows Jesus born of a virgin and ends with Jesus as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. “The heavens declare” the full plan of Salvation through the original names of the stars. This is NOT the Astrology Zodiac, but it is the true meaning of the names that God gave to the stars. Psalms 147:4 says, “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth all of them all by their names.” (also Isa.40:26) When I consider the millions, billions, and trillions of stars, that is a lot of names! Only God can name and place them at the right place, to be seen at the right time to unfold God’s plan of Salvation.

“The heavens declare” the full plan of Salvation through the original names of the stars.”

Psalms 139:14, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

I was recently at a school and heard a presentation given by a nurse. He was telling high school students the importance of donating blood. One statement really caught my attention. He said, “Scientists have never been able to make and to reproduce blood in the lab. It has to come from another individual.”

After further research, I found a statement by Robert M Winslow from the University of California at San Diego. He said, “Blood does many things, of course, and artificial blood is designed to do only one of them: carry oxygen and carbon dioxide. No substitutes have yet been invented that can replace the other vital functions of blood…”

Isn’t it wonderful? Leviticus 17:11 says, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Colossians 1:16 says, “For by him [Jesus] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,…” Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life:…” (Emphases added) The life that we have today came from our Creator. Eternal life is available through the shed blood of the Creator who became our Savior!

What a blessing! These are just 3 examples of seeing God’s hand in creation around us. Psalms 46:10 says,”Be still, and know that I am God…I will be exalted in the earth!” Finally, the Bible, God’s Word, says in Romans 1:19-20, “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, and the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”
