CBM National intern – Listen and Obey
By CBM National intern, Jordan Mancari –
My summer rotation as a CBM National Intern was at CBM’s Camp Grace in Fairmont, NC, where I served as their media guy. When I first heard this would be my summer role, I kind of laughed and said, “Ok God, you took me out of college where I was doing digital media to come into ministry, and now you have me doing media again.” Of course, I asked Him why. Why are You asking me to do something again that I dislike doing? To me it just did not make any sense. The more I prayed, the more God kept showing me there had to be a point to this.
Deuteronomy 13:4 says, “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commands and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him.” It took me a long time, but I eventually started to realize that God was trying to teach me He just wants me to listen and obey Him. It’s not easy; I’ve had several times in my life where I’ve felt like Jonah and tried to run away from God. This summer, however, I was in a position where I could not run away from my problems. I had to face them and give them to the Lord; I had to listen and obey Him.
Malachi 2:2 says, “If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name, says the Lord Almighty, I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me.”
After a while I finally told God, “Alright God, I’m done running, I’m done trying to do this on my own, and I’m ready to listen.” Almost instantly, I started to feel an overwhelming peace with God, as if He was telling me this is what He wanted to hear all long. Even though I do not quite understand why God had me doing media, I’ve really seen Him bless me through it and give me opportunities that I never thought I would have. This summer God has began to show me that if we listen and obey, great things will come.
I leave you with this final verse, Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” God knows our desires and if we listen and obey His commands, He will give us desires according to His perfect will.
