Being Generous
Being Generous is being willing and happy to share what you have with others. Generous people
think about what they can GIVE instead of what they can GET. The Word of God says in 2 Corinthians
9:7, “God loves a cheerful giver.”
Have you ever thought something like this? “It’s my money and I’m going to spend it all on me.” “I
deserve the biggest piece of cake!” “Since I’m on vacation I don’t have to obey my parents.” Who are you thinking about? YOU! Selfish thoughts like these show others that you are only thinking about you can get and not what you can give to others.
You miss the great joy that comes from helping others by spending all your time and money on yourself . Selfishness doesn’t bring you joy and you will eventually want more and more things for yourself. But when you and I are generous, God will give us everything we really need. Take some time to read Proverbs 3:9.
Be generous, you might be thinking, I’m too young and I don’t have money or things to give to others.
What about being generous with your LOVE by doing something nice for an older neighbor (I John 4:11);
or using your STRENGTH to volunteer for a job that would help out at home (Galatians 6:10); or being
generous with your WORDS by saying something kind to a person today. There are many other ways we
can be generous. Look up Psalm 55:17, Matthew 5:16, and Psalm 119:11 and see what our TIME, GOOD
WORKS, and STUDYING GOD’s WORD have to do with being generous!
Remember generous people think about what they can GIVE instead of what they can GET! “God loves
a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
