Ministry Doesn’t Stop

Written by Jacquelyn Davis   Today is not like yesterday. This month is not like last month. This year is not like last year. This is a new day–with new challenges, new fears and struggles. As I sit here and watch what is going on all around us it can feel overwhelming and earth shattering. There is a piece of me that wants to shrivel up and go hide in a hole. I mean, what can we do? Everything is shutting down. Things are changing. Churches are closing. I have never seen anything like this before. The mantra today seems to be, “Cancel everything and go home.”  But ministry doesn’t stop. Missionaries do not cease to exist. ...

Engaging in Missions: First Do No Harm

Written by Page Johnson   Imagine this:  Your mission team brings trunks full of shoes to fit onto kids’ feet within a community.  The team worked for months to collect them and sort them.  You see smiles, laughter, share Jesus and go home feeling great and post lots of pictures of barefooted kids who now have shoes! Share this all with the church and give the glory to God.  It feels great to do good things!  Right?  But wait…If you had taken time to survey the entire scene, you may have seen a man in the market with a blanket spread with various shoes for sale.  Do you realize that he would not likely sell shoes for many ...

Will I Stay? (What to do when missions gets difficult.)

by Gracia Burnham   Stay?  Or leave?  Well, let’s see.   It might be good to remember the reason we got into this “job” in the first place.  God’s truth is so glorious that it MUST be shared.  We know the only solution to the sin and death problem that plagues mankind!  The need of man will never change–and the answer remains the same.  Jesus said, “Go.  And I will be with you!”  So, we go! Missionaries are real humans who experience life just like everyone else.  They aren’t super heroes as they are often portrayed by “the folks back home.”  And I don’t think that any of us go into ministry thinking ...

Thanks and Giving

Written by Bob Johnson   The Bible has a lot to say about the two words in the title, and both are used to get the work of God done in the world today. Money can be a friend or foe while trying to live our lives in a godly manner. Money can be used by God to get His work done here on earth. It can also be used by Satan to get Christians off track. The love of money has taken many Christians off of their original vision of reaching lost people.   As Christians, we need to wear out the word “thanks” or “thank you.” I Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks.” I think even Jesus, in Luke 17:17, was a ...

My Mission Trip Pack List

By Tawny Austin Hey, I'm Tawny! I've been a missionary with CBM since Fall of 2017 and have served in Honduras full-time since October 2019. Surprisingly, before moving to Honduras, I had only been on one mission trip, and it wasn't even a "typical" mission trip. I went to Japan with my husband in 2016 for a month, over one of our college summer breaks to help out with a VBS program, English classes, and some other ministry work. We moved to Honduras a few years later and, after a few teams came to work with us, was the first time I saw what the "typical mission trip" really looked like. I also learned a lot of things about what to pack to go on a ...
