Work is over and you’re headed home, but first there are special errands to run. When your done and get home, you marvel once again at the all-too-common coldness of our fellow humans. Doesn’t anyone smile anymore? Doesn’t anyone apologize for making a person wait or for giving bad service?

The boss of a moving company has a philosophy we wish every person who serves us would emulate. Knowing what a traumatic experience moving can be, packing up and starting a new life in a new place, he takes a point of letting his clients know he understands and care about what they’re going through. In the process, he has found it is just as easy to be kind as it is to be abrupt.

The best example we have of how to serve is Jesus. He told His disciples,”The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” Jesus dedication to service was evident in all He did, from teaching in the synagogues and preaching the good news, to healing the sick and performing miracles.

“When he saw the crowds He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Isn’t that the way we sometimes feel at the end of a long, hard day–harassed and helplesss? Don’t we want someone to treat us kindly.

When people treat us well– what a difference it makes! The law of sowing and reaping tells us that what we sow we will reap.(Galatians 6:7) As we become more and more a servant of love and kindness to others, we will find ourselves being served with love and kindness.
