Thanks and Giving

Written by Bob Johnson   The Bible has a lot to say about the two words in the title, and both are used to get the work of God done in the world today. Money can be a friend or foe while trying to live our lives in a godly manner. Money can be used by God to get His work done here on earth. It can also be used by Satan to get Christians off track. The love of money has taken many Christians off of their original vision of reaching lost people.   As Christians, we need to wear out the word “thanks” or “thank you.” I Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks.” I think even Jesus, in Luke 17:17, was a ...

Faith over Fear

Written by Staciajohna Randle, Team #12 Fear is something that I struggled with a lot in my life. Fear will cause us to be blind and act out instead of thinking. The word fear in Greek is phobos meaning dread and terror. I wrote a whole page about faith over fear, and I felt great about it. But then George Floyd died on May 26, 2020, and little did I know that the whole society was going to change. I was so fearful for my family and friends’ safety.  Everything was being destroyed ...

My Mission Trip Pack List

By Tawny Austin Hey, I'm Tawny! I've been a missionary with CBM since Fall of 2017 and have served in Honduras full-time since October 2019. Surprisingly, before moving to Honduras, I had only been on one mission trip, and it wasn't even a "typical" mission trip. I went to Japan with my husband in 2016 for a month, over one of our college summer breaks to help out with a VBS program, English classes, and some other ministry work. We moved to Honduras a few years later and, after a few teams came to work with us, was the first time I saw what the "typical mission trip" really looked like. I also learned a lot of things about what to pack to go on a ...

Top Things We Want to Teach in Staff Training

By Aaron Miller   When planning for staff training, it can be daunting to determine what to include, what to emphasize, and what can be taught along the way during summer camp.  At New Life Camp we have developed a ladder of priorities that we not only want our full-time staff to understand, but we also want our summer staff to know.  When everything goes wrong and I can only focus on one thing, what is that one thing?  And if I can manage more, what comes next?  This ladder helps our staff navigate such decisions and we plan our staff training to reflect these priorities. Our first priority is safety.  Crassly put, if we do ...

5 Things You Need to Know Before Missions

By Bruce and Laura Edgar 1. It will be harder than you think It’s easy to hear stories or read newsletters and think that missions is easy. Some days it is but many days it is not. You will be tried in unique ways and there will be days you feel like giving up. That is why it’s important not to do missions on a whim thinking, “It will be fun to try.” A key to success is to have a support structure in place. This may be a mission board, as well as your church’s and pastor’s full support, and mentors who will be there for you along the way.  This is true whether you go for a week or a lifetime! 2. It will require an ...
