Christian Internship – Trust Fall

By CBM National intern, Cati Watts –

How much of your life do you trust God with? 50%? 95%? Some people might say they trust Him with everything, but is that really true?

Imagine, if you will, that you gave your closest friend control of all your earthly possessions—car, clothes, computer, and money. You tell your friend that he can do anything he wants with it. Or how about letting them decide which college you should go to or which friends you should hang out with. Could you do it? Would there be some things that you would hold back? Decisions you think you would be better equipped to make? Maybe you don’t trust that they would properly care for you and your stuff?

We all have a tendency to want to control things. This need for control often spreads to also become true in our relationship with Jesus. There have been times in my life when I would say “Jesus, take all that is me and all that is mine… and, by all, I mean everything but that one person or situation.” I don’t know your reason for holding back from trusting God, but mine is always ridiculous. I hold back things thinking that God might not understand how much I want something or that he might make the wrong decision. Having you ever played tug-of-war knowing you were definitely going to lose? Even if you tried, you’d have massive rope burn. That is basically what this feels like, except with a feeling of relief at the end instead of defeat.

Ever heard this verse?

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Yeah, that’s right! Read that again. God has instructed that we submit all! Not 65% or everything except that one life-changing decision. ALL! So, dive in headfirst! Take a flying leap and trust that he won’t let you fall.
