Christian Internship – Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated, Lord, to Thee

By CBM National Intern, Ana Rodriguez –

//Take my life and let it be

Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days

Let them flow in endless praise//

This well-known hymn is a prayer of mine. I hope to spend my moments and my days for the praise of His glory. Praise the Lord that all the days planned for me were written in His book before one of them came to be. I thank the Lord often for the moments and the days He has given me, yet what have I been doing with these precious days? They are precious, not because of their individual value, but because of the purpose and design with which they have been given to me by God. Am I living worthy of the gospel of Christ, as Paul urged believers in many of his letters (Ephesians 4, Philippians 1, Colossians 1, and 1 Thessalonians 2)? What does that mean?  What does that look like?  Is that possible?

The beautiful stanzas of this hymn reflect a noble attempt. The moments and days of the present are filled with dear times to serve and abundant opportunities to love those around me.  Still, deep thoughts about sanctification and the meaning of sacrifice crowd my mind, as I try to understand this actual pursuit.  Simply put, the struggle of every believer is the Christian faith lived out.

It is His gracious gospel which has rescued me from the domain of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of His Son, in whom I have redemption.  How am I to live worthy of that fact? It is His Spirit which works in me to will and to act according to His good purpose. I keep in mind and hold close to my heart these truths. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me and praise the Lord this is certain; praise the Lord, He is faithful and true.

//Take myself and I will be

Ever, only, all for Thee//
